Essex ARG, 11th MEU return from deployment
Amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2) transits the San Diego Bay in preparation for arrival pierside at Naval Base San Diego. Essex, a part of the Essex Amphibious Ready Group, returned to Naval Base San Diego, March 4, after a deployment to U.S. 3rd, 5th, and 7th Fleet areas of operation in support of regional stability and a free and open Info-Pacific.

U.S. Ambassador to Japan Visits USS Ronald Reagan
Capt. Fred Goldhammer, commanding officer, speaks with The Honorable Rahm Emanuel, the U.S. ambassador to Japan, in the hangar bay of the U.S. Navy’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). During his visit, Emanuel toured Ronald Reagan, addressed the crew, and served as the keynote speaker in a naturalization ceremony where 17 candidates from 11 different countries became American citizens. Ronald Reagan, the flagship of Carrier Strike Group 5, provides a combat-ready force that protects and defends the United States, and supports alliances, partnerships and collective maritime interests in the Indo-Pacific region.

USS Anchorage, 1st Marine Division Exercise Waterborne Capabilities of ACVs
U.S. Marines assigned to the 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 1st Marine Division, conduct waterborne training with an Amphibious Combat Vehicle (ACV) from shore to loading amphibious transport dock ship USS Anchorage (LPD 23) at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, Feb. 12, 2022. The two-day waterborne training evolution focused on safety and transport capabilities for both the Marine Corps and Navy and is part of a larger training plan to refine tactics and doctrine for amphibious operations.

31st MEU Conducts VBSS Training Aboard USS Miguel Keith in Support of Exercise Noble Fusion
U.S. Marines with Maritime Raid Force, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), prepare for takeoff aboard the amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6) prior to a Visitation, Board, Search, and Seizure (VBSS) during operation Noble Fusion in the Philippine Sea, Feb. 5, 2022. VBSS training reinforces the Marine Corps’ presence within ocean waters by having a team at the ready to act in a moment’s notice. Noble Fusion demonstrates that Navy and Marine Corps forward-deployed stand-in naval expeditionary forces can rapidly aggregate Marine Expeditionary Unit/Amphibious Ready Group teams at sea, along with a carrier strike group, joint forces and allies in order to conduct lethal sea-denial operations, seize key maritime terrain, guarantee freedom of movement, and create advantage for US, partner and allied forces. Naval Expeditionary forces conduct training throughout the year, in the Indo-Pacific, to maintain readiness.

US Navy Seabees with NMCB-5 support Pacific Air Forces
Utilitiesman 2nd Class Mahely Buffkin (right) and Utilitiesman 2nd Class Sean Mulligan, with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 5, work on the pavement and bollards project to support the Pacific Air Forces onboard Naval Support Facility, Diego Garcia. USS Daniel Inouye Commissioned at Pearl Harbor
The crew of the Navy's newest guided-missile destroyer, USS Daniel Inouye (DDG 118), brings the ship to life during its commissioning ceremony. Homeported at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, DDG 118 is the first U.S. Navy warship to honor the Honorable Daniel K. Inouye, a U.S. senator from Hawaii who served from 1962 until his death in 2012. During World War II, Inouye served in the U.S. Army’s 442nd Regimental Combat Team, one of the most decorated military units in U.S. history. For his combat heroism, which cost him his right arm, Inouye was awarded the Medal of Honor.

U.S. Pacific Fleet Commander Inspired to Share USS Arizona Relics
Adm. Samuel Paparo, commander of U.S. Pacific Fleet, presents a relic from the USS Arizona (BB-39) to the crew of the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer USS Chung-Hoon (DDG 93) in remembrance and commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. The relic originates from a section of the superstructure of the Arizona that was removed from the ship when the Arizona Memorial was constructed. The Naval History and Heritage Command authorized the removal of sections of the relics for display and legacy enhancing purposes in 1994.

Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group conducts port call in Guam
The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) arrives at Guam for a port visit. The arrival of Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group marks the first time that a carrier strike group with the advanced capabilities of the F-35C Lightning II and Navy CMV-22B Osprey have visited Guam. During Ronald Reagan's deployment, the ship transited 43,000 nautical miles operating in the U.S. 5th fleet area of operations to assist with Operation Freedom's Sentinel and Operation Allies Refuge in support of U.S. drawdown operations in Afghanistan. Ronald Reagan returned to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility and took part in multi-carrier operations, which included 15,000 sailors from six partner nations upholding collective maritime interests in the Indo-Pacific region.
