Wasp Expeditionary Strike Group Provides Air Support to CNMI Recovery Efforts
Personnel with the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) and U.S. service members from the Coast Guard and Navy depart. Personnel from FEMA were surveying damage caused by Typhoon Mangkhut and a contingent of U.S. military personnel remained on the island to clear debris. Service members from Indo-Pacific Command are providing Department of Defense support to FEMA and working with Guam and Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands' civil and local officials for typhoon recovery efforts.

Wasp Expeditionary Strike Group Begins DSCA Operations in Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands
Cpl. Joseph Apodaca, a radio operator with Combat Logistics Battalion 31, carries gear onto a CH-53E Super Stallion with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 262 (Rein.) at Andersen Air Force Base as part of typhoon relief efforts in Rota, Northern Mariana Islands, Sept. 11, 2018. Apodaca, a native of Casa Grande, Arizona, graduated Vista Grande High School May 2013; he enlisted in the Marine Corps Aug. the same year. Service members from the Indo-Pacific Command are providing Department of Defense support to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and working with Guam and Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas civil and local officials for Typhoon Mangkhut recovery efforts. The 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible force ready to perform a wide-range of military operations.

Six passengers aboard a canoe were located in a joint search and rescue mission June 25, 2018, in the Pacific Ocean Southwest of Guam. Crew members flying a B-52H Stratofortress assigned to the 20th Expeditionary Bomb Squadron (EBS), stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base (AFB), La., and deployed to Andersen AFB, Guam, successfully located six passengers who had been missing for six days and relayed their location to the U.S. Coast Guard.

RQ-4 Global Hawks arrive at Misawa AB
An RQ-4 Global Hawk, assigned to the 69th Reconnaissance Group, Detachment 1, Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, lands at Misawa Air Base, Japan, June 1, 2018, for a temporary intra-theater deployment. The movement increases operations for Global Hawks during months of inclement weather endured at Andersen, such as typhoons and other scenarios which have the potential to hinder readiness.The Andersen-based RQ-4s were deployed to Yokota AB, Japan, in 2017 and to Misawa AB in 2014 and 2015 for similar reasons. The United States continues to deploy its most advanced capabilities to Japan, including the Global Hawk, as part of the commitment to the security and stability of Japan.

HSC-25 Rescues Stranded Hikers Near Cetti Bay
Naval Aircrewmen Helicopter 1st Class Eric Veditz lowers a hoist down to distressed hikers near the Cetti Bay waterfall in Guam. Aircrew from Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 25, in partnership with the Guam Fire Department, rescued five hikers who had become stranded when severe rains and flooding impeded the trail they had been hiking on.
