Marines and Sailors with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit’s Maritime Raid Force secure a simulated casualty during Visit, Board, Search and Seizure training in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, Jan. 10, 2020. During VBSS training, the Marines hone their ship boarding and seizure capabilities to better perform maritime interdiction operations. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.

U.S. Navy Seabees with NMCB 5’s Detail Iwakuni Start a Landfill Capping Project in Support of MCAS
Equipment Operator 3rd Class Marco Padilla, from San Antonio, and Equipment Operator 3rd Class Micheal King, from St. Stephen, South Carolina, deployed with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 5’s Detail Iwakuni, put logs into the bucket of backhoe to clean the project site. U.S. Navy Seabees with NMCB-5’s Detail Iwakuni are constructing a landfill capping project in support of Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni. NMCB-5 is deployed across the Indo-Pacific region conducting high-quality construction to support U.S. and partner nations to strengthen partnerships, deter aggression, and enable expeditionary logistics and naval power projection.

MARFORPAC Initiates Simulated Crisis Action Drill: 31st MEU Rapidly Responds
Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear Marines with Marine Aircraft Group 36 conduct a decontamination during a “no-notice” embassy reinforcement and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear response drill on Camp Futenma, Okinawa, Japan, Oct. 31, 2019. The exercise demonstrated the MEU’s ability to conduct planning, insertion, execution, and retrograde at distances of up to 600 miles within 72 hours. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.

Admiral Visits Cordova as Part of Navy's Arctic Expeditionary Exercise
Rear Adm. Scott Gray, commander of Navy Region Northwest, learns about local commercial fishing processes from John Renner, a commercial fisherman in Cordova. Gray was in Alaska along with approximately 3,000 U.S. Navy and Marine Corps personnel supporting the Arctic Expeditionary Capabilities Exercise (AECE) 2019. AECE 2019, is a joint training exercise that tests expeditionary logistical capabilities in the Arctic region and prepares joint forces to respond to crises across the Indo-Pacific.

U.S. Army Teams with Fijian Military for Exercise Cartwheel 2019
Soldiers serving with Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 25 Infantry Brigade Combat Team, exit a C-130 Hercules aircraft at the Nadi International Airport, July 27. The Soldiers will embed and train with the Republic of Fiji Military Forces for approximately three weeks in a field training exercise called Exercise Cartwheel. The exercise is an opportunity to enhance professional relationships, military operations and readiness between the U.S. Army and Fijian forces while strengthening security relations for a free and open Indo-Pacific.

USS Ronald Reagan Holds Coral Sea Remembrance Ceremony
Capt. Pat Hannifin, commanding officer of the Navy’s forward-deployed aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), and Capt. Forrest Young, commanding officer of Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 5, lay a wreath into the Coral Sea during a remembrance ceremony for USS Lexington (CV 2). Ronald Reagan is the first aircraft carrier to commemorate Lexington since the discovery of the wreckage in 2018.
