First Responders Improve Interoperability, Emergency Response for Guam
First responders from Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 25, Joint Region Marianas (JRM), and U.S. Naval Base Guam (NBG) Fire and Emergency Services (FES) gather for a photo during aerial wildland firefighting coordination training at the Naval Magazine in Santa Rita, April 19. HSC-25 and Navy FES are two agencies included in the mutual aid agreement between the military and the local government, which provides coordinated emergency response on Guam and in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. Enhanced interoperability between JRM, NBG FES and HSC-25 will provide more efficient and effective response to natural and manmade wildfires on Guam.

Air Force moves forward with $28.9M contract award at Andersen AFB
Munitions storage igloos at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam. Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center’s Det. 2 recently awarded $28.9 million for the construction of 12 sustainable facilities in support of an on-going effort consisting of 20 new igloos. This is a four-phased project to increase munitions storage capacity at Andersen AFB.

Underwater Construction Team 2 Completes the Inaugural Multinational Underwater Repair Exercise with the Republic of Korea Navy Underwater Construction Team
Divers from the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN) Underwater Construction Team (UCT) and the U.S. Navy’s Underwater Construction Team TWO (UCT-2) perform underwater exothermic cutting during the Multinational Underwater Repair Exercise (MUREX) 2021 in Apra Harbor, Guam, Dec. 21, 2021. This is the first-ever MUREX, an exercise designed to develop interoperability in underwater construction operations, build diving expertise, and foster comradery between the ROKN UCT and the U.S. Navy’s UCT-2 and Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit ONE (MDSU-1).

70th Annual Operation Christmas Drop kicks off Dec. 6 in Guam
U.S. Air Force Airmen assigned to the 734th Air Mobility Squadron, 44th Aerial Port Squadron and the 374th Airlift Wing unload humanitarian supplies from a U.S. Air Force C-130J Super Hercules assigned to the 36th Airlift Squadron, deployed from Yokota Air Base, Japan, at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam in preparation for Operation Christmas Drop, Dec. 1, 2021. Over the course of 10 days, crews will airdrop donated food, supplies, educational materials, and tools to 55 islanders throughout the South-Eastern Pacific, including the Federated States of Micronesia, and the Republic of Palau.

Team Andersen engineers test RADAS
U.S. Air Force civil engineers fly a Small Unmanned Aircraft System during Rapid Airfield Damage Assessment System testing at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, Nov. 5, 2021. RADAS is one of the Air Force Civil Engineer Center’s latest research and development projects and is the first step in recovering a runway after an attack. It uses Small Unmanned Aerial Systems (SUAS) designed to significantly reduce hazardous exposure Airmen might encounter while assessing a damaged runway as well as reduce the time the airfield recovery and assessment process takes.
