U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Tomas Carreon and Lance Cpl. William Termine, water support technicians with Marine Wing Support Squadron (MWSS) 171, ground a flood light during exercise Kamashika Wrath at Haramura, Japan, Sept. 30, 2017. 2017 March 12th CAMP HANSEN, Okinawa

A UH-1Y Venom leads the way for an AH-1Z Viper flying by Mount Fuji, Shizuoka, Japan, March 12, 2017. Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 267 validated the long-range capability of the auxiliary fuel tanks on their H-1 platform helicopters by flying more than 314 nautical miles during one leg of the four-day operation, March 10. These aircrafts’ extended range is crucial to maintaining a stronger, more capable forward-deployed force in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region. The Marines in the aircraft are with HMLA-267, currently assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 36, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, III Marine Expeditionary Force through the unit deployment program. An F-35B Lightning II with Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 121, lands at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Jan. 18, 2017. VMFA-121 conducted a permanent change of station to MCAS Iwakuni, from MCAS Yuma, Ariz., and now belongs to Marine Aircraft Group 12, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, III Marine Expeditionary Force. The F-35B Lightning II is a fifth-generation fighter, which is the world's first operational supersonic short takeoff and vertical landing aircraft. The F-35B brings strategic agility, operational flexibility and tactical supremacy to III MEF with a mission radius greater than that of the F/A-18 Hornet and AV-8B Harrier II in support of the U.S. - Japan alliance. U.S. Marine Corps MV-22 Ospreys assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 265, Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, Japan, fly in formation with a U.S. Air Force MC-130J Commando II assigned to the 17th Special Operations Squadron, Kadena Air Base, Japan, during a tiltrotor air to air refueling (TAAR) July 19, 2016, over the Pacific Ocean. The TAAR enabled the Ospreys to operate beyond unassisted flight range in a training exercise designed to evaluate long-range airfield seizure capability in a joint operation between the Marines and Air Force.
