MV-22s take off in support of exercise KAMANDAG

Two MV-22 Ospreys with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 262 take off from Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, Okinawa, Japan, September 29, 2017, in support of exercise KAMANDAG. Bilateral exercises such as KAMANDAG increase the ability of the United States and the Philippines to rapidly respond and work together during real world terrorist or humanitarian crises, in order to accomplish the mission, support the local population and help mitigate human suffering. VMM-262 is assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 36, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing. In preparation for KAMANDAG, the Ospreys served as transportation for 3rd Marine Expeditionary Brigade's joint humanitarian assistance survey team.

U.S. Government returns land to Okinawa

Local and military officials along with members of the Government of Japan stand for the playing of Kimigayo and the American national anthem at the land return ceremony Aug. 1 at Laguna Garden Hotel in Ginowan City, Okinawa, Aug. 1, 2017. The U.S. government returned 10.56 acres from Marine Corps Air Station Futenma to Ginowan City. The purpose of this is to strategically realign, consolidate, and reduce U.S. facilities and adjust operational procedures on Okinawa.

Ammo Company disposes ammunition

U.S. Marines conduct a movement of unserviceable ammunition from the Ammunition Supply Point on Camp Schwab, Okinawa, Japan to a United States Naval Ship at Tengan Pier, Okinawa. The Marines with Ammunition Company, 3d Supply Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 35, 3d Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force loaded up approximately 130 pallets of ammunition at the ASP to be transported and returned to the Naval Munitions Command on Sasebo Navy Base, Japan, for proper disposal. The experience of a ship-to-shore ammo movement is unique to the Marines with III MEF and benefits their forward deployed capabilities by simulating a realistic scenario that could happen during an operation.

Okinawa Maintenance Logistics Group Marines Save Life on Mt. Fuji

Antonio Martinez (far left) and Avelardo Guevera Osuna (center right) came together to assist a local Japanese woman during their hike on Mount Fuji, Japan, July 3, 2017. The woman, Moe Oda, was found lying on the ground, hyperventilating and struggling to breathe when the Marines came to her assistance. Together, they created a makeshift stretcher to carry her down approximately two miles to get to medical assistance. The Marines are with Electronics Maintenance Company, 3d Maintenance Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 35, 3d Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force.

Education programs, such as this military exchange experience, increase cooperation, trust and understanding between the U.S. military and the Okinawan community. An assault amphibious vehicle maneuvers its way across a beach during an amphibious assault exercise March 15 aboard Kushi Crossing, Okinawa, Japan.
