'Dreadnaught' battalion takes home lessons from Korean gunnery exercise
POCHEON, Republic of Korea -- An M2 Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicle from 2nd Battalion, 34th Armor Regiment, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, conducts a live-fire gunnery range at the Rodriguez Live Fire Complex Nov. 19. The battalion is the first of many from the 1st ABCT, 1st Inf. Div. to conduct a 30-day rotation at the RLFC and will continue to train on their weapons systems in order to deter regional aggression, maintain peace on the Korean peninsula and, if needed, "Fight Tonight" in support of the 2nd Inf. Landing Support Platoon refines external lift capabilities
Marines assigned to Landing Support Platoon, Combat Logistics Battalion 31, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, set up a landing zone with a load of tires and sandbags as part of external lift operations training at Landing Zone Falcon, Okinawa, Japan, Dec. 8, 2016. CLB-31 conducted the training with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 262 (Reinforced) to complete qualifications for the 31st MEU's upcoming spring deployment. As the Marine Corps' only continuously forward-deployed unit, the MEU’s air-ground-logistics team provides a flexible force, ready to perform a wide range of military operations, from limited combat to humanitarian assistance operations, throughout the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.

Marine Osprey refueled by Japanese Defense Force
Sgt. Andrew Sturgress, a MV-22B Osprey tiltrotor aircraft crew chief assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 262, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, walks past Mr. Norio Tomonaga, the Mayor of Sasebo, and the Assemblymen of Defense for Sasebo City during take-off preparation from Sasebo, Nagasaki, Japan, Nov. 18, 2016. The aircraft flew from the island of Okinawa, conducted simulated humanitarian aid with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) at multiple locations and was refueled by JMSDF personnel before returning to Okinawa. Sturgess is a native of Sidney, Illinois.

Cope West 17
A U.S. Marine Corps F/A-18D Hornet with Marine All-Weather Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA (AW)) 225 and an Indonesian Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon fly in formation during exercise Cope West 17 in Indonesia, Nov. 4, 2016. The combined training offered by this exercise helps prepare the U.S. Marine Corps and Indonesia Air Force to work together in promoting a peaceful Indo-Asia-Pacific region while practicing close air support and air-to-air training that will enhance their ability to respond to contingencies throughout the region. Both the U.S. F/A-18D Hornets and Indonesian F-16 Fighting Falcons bring unique capabilities affording the associated nations the opportunity to learn and understand each other’s skills, preparing them for real world contingencies and further strengthening their relationship.

Innovations Save Lives
Cpl. Matthew A. Long turns a wrench on a High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) engine on Camp Kinser, Okinawa, Japan, October 25, 2016. Long was selected as a winner in a Marine Corps logistical innovation competition for incorporating a blood clotting agent and pain killer with a Small Arms Protective Insert (SAPI) to minimize the time between injury and aid. This fighter-focused, bilateral exercise between the U.S. Marine Corps and Indonesian Air Force is designed to enhance the readiness of combined interoperability between the two nations. The squadron plans to complete their unit air-to-air training requirements, which focuses on basic fighter maneuvering, section engaged maneuvering, offensive anti-air warfare and active air defense versus the Indonesian Air Force to increase situational readiness, interoperability, knowledge and partnership between the U.S. and Indonesia.

US Marines train for garrison and operational environments
U.S. Marines with Combat Logistics Company 36 don their M50 Joint Service General Purpose Masks during chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear defense training at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, Aug. 10, 2016. Marines, already in mission oriented protective posture gear, were evaluated on their ability to effectively detect, report, respond and operate in a simulated CBRN environment. When given the signal “gas, gas, gas,” Marines scrambled to don their M50 Joint Service General Purpose Masks before returning to work as if everything was normal. Conducting this training helps Marines refresh their tactical skill sets specific to CBRN response, maintain situational readiness and ensures the safety of personnel.
