VISAKHAPATNAM, India

U.S. Marines with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) and Navy Sailors with the Essex Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) man the rails aboard the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock USS Anchorage (LPD 23), Dec. 22, 2018. The Anchorage, assigned to the Essex ARG, is conducting a partnership strengthening visit to Visakhapatnam, India. The Essex ARG and 13th MEU are a capable and lethal Navy-Marine Corps team deployed to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations to support regional stability, reassure partners and allies and maintain a presence postured to respond to any crisis ranging from humanitarian assistance to contingency operations. PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea

A UH-1Y Huey helicopter, assigned to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron (HMLA) 469, prepares to land on the flight deck aboard the amphibious transport dock ship USS Green Bay (LPD 20) during a training evolution. Green Bay is in Port Moresby to assist with security efforts ahead of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) conference and is the second U.S. ship to visit Port Moresby in the last two months. Green Bay is part of Amphibious Squadron 11 and is operating in the region to enhance interoperability with partners and serve as a ready-response force for any type of contingency. Share

Angel Ignacio, the battalion gunnery sergeant with Combat Logistics Battalion 31, catches a package of bottled water from a coastguardsman aboard the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Washington (WPB-1331) while delivering food and supplies to citizens of Tinian, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands during relief efforts in the wake of Super Typhoon Yutu, Oct. 29, 2018. Ignacio, a communications chief, is a native of Guam, CNMI, which was also affected by Yutu. The Marines arrived on Tinian in the wake of Super Typhoon Yutu as part of the U.S. Defense Support of Civil Authorities here. The Marines arrived at the request of CNMI officials and the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency to assist relief efforts in the wake of Yutu, the largest typhoon to ever hit a U.S. territory. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible force ready to perform a wide-range of military operations across the Indo-Pacific region. Share

ROTA, Commonwealth of the Northern Marina Islands

Personnel with the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) and U.S. service members from the Coast Guard and Navy depart. Personnel from FEMA were surveying damage caused by Typhoon Mangkhut and a contingent of U.S. military personnel remained on the island to clear debris. Service members from Indo-Pacific Command are providing Department of Defense support to FEMA and working with Guam and Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands' civil and local officials for typhoon recovery efforts. WASHINGTON

The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) and U.S. Indo-Pacific Command conduct an honorable carry ceremony at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam (JBPH-H), Hawaii, Aug. 1, 2018. Carry teams will move fifty-five transfer cases, containing what are believed to be the remains of American service members lost in the Korean War, to the DPAA facility at JBPH-H for identification. North Korea recently turned over the remains to the U.S. and is the first mass turnover of remains since the early '90s. Share
