Smoke bombs emit white and black smoke to simulate detonated improvised explosive devices at a mine clearance and counter-IED course during Khaan Quest 2016 at Five Hills Training Area near Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, June 1. The training provided MAF members with the skills to safely identify and mark potential threats in a minefield, extract personnel and vehicles from minefields and develop IED awareness. Khaan Quest 2016 is an annual, multinational peacekeeping operations exercise hosted by the Mongolian Armed Forces, co-sponsored by U.S. Pacific Command, and supported by U.S. Army Pacific and U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific. Khaan Quest, in its 14th iteration, is the capstone exercise for this year’s Global Peace Operations Initiative program. U.S. Marines, Mongolian soldiers conduct small boat riverine training course during Khaan Quest 2016.
ULAANBAATAR, Mongolia (May 30, 2016) – A soldier from the Alaska National Guard accompanies members of the Mongolian Armed Forces during a small boat riverine training course. The small boat riverine training course is part of Khaan Quest 2016 and is the continuation of last week’s basic water survival course to familiarize MAF soldiers with different survival tactics in different environments that can be used during their deployment or U.N. missions. Khaan Quest 2016 is an annual, multinational peacekeeping operations exercise hosted by the Mongolian Armed Forces, co-sponsored by U.S. Pacific Command, and supported by U.S. Army Pacific and U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific. Hawaii Sailors join the Effort to Build Resilient Partners in Pacific Partnership 2016

Cobra Gold 16: Noncombatant Evacuation Preparation

Fallen Marines in Nepal helicopter crash honored at U.S. Embassy in Kathmandu
Brig. Gen. Tracy W. King (center), commanding general, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, and the Marine Security Guard Detachment Kathmandu stand in the newly dedicated 'Vengeance Hall' in the Marine House at the U.S. Embassy, Nov. 6, 2015. Six Marines, along with two Nepalese Army Liaison soldiers and five injured Nepalese civilians, lost their lives during an aircraft mishap on May 12. The Marines were conducting humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations in support of Joint Task Force 505, during Operation Sahayogi Haat when their aircraft went down. 'Vengeance Hall' was dedicated in their honor.

Deployable command, control system critical to Nepal earthquake relief
In this photo, deployable Joint Command and Control satellites send and receive communications information at the Joint Task Force 505 Intermediate Staging Base, Utapao Royal Thai Naval Airfield, Thailand, May 12. The satellite are part of the DJC2 system which is currently providing communications capability. DJC2 integrates software, hardware and processes to support a shared-information environment consisting of joint, coalition, multinational and nongovernmental agencies, and has proved to be an important communications tool during Operation Sahayogi Haat.
