The secretary headed a high-level U.S. delegation that State Department officials said reflected the tremendous importance of Indonesia as a major emerging power, as the third-largest democracy, and as the largest democratic Muslim-majority country.
The trip to Indonesia is the secretary’s eighth visit to the Asia-Pacific region in the past 20 months.
While in Jakarta, Kerry also met with Philippine Foreign Secretary Albert del Rosario and Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott, as well as the prime ministers of Malaysia and Singapore and the sultan of Brunei.
