Landpower and Integrated Deterrence in the Indo-Pacific (CMF #3)

By Staff Sgt. Jennifer Delaney

U.S. Army Pacific -- The Association of the United States Army will host a Contemporary Military Forum at 10 a.m., Oct. 11, focused on the critical role Landpower and integrated deterrence play across the Indo-Pacific, as part of AUSA’s annual meeting and exposition at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Washington, D.C.

The panel members are scheduled to include Gen. Charles Flynn, U.S. Army Pacific commanding general; Maj. Gen. Brian Eifler, 11th Airborne Division commanding general; Lt. Gen. Yamane Toshikazu, Vice Chief of Staff, Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force; Dr. Mara Karlin, Assistant Secretary of Defense Strategy, Plans, & Capabilities; and U.S. Representative Robert Wittman, 1st District, Virginia.

The Secretary of the Army, Christine E. Wormuth, has emphasized that the Army is “the backbone of the Joint Force in the Indo-Pacific, our priority theater for responding to China as our pacing challenge."

During the CMF, panelists will share their expert perspectives and experiences on the subject and field questions from the audience on why and how Landpower forms the foundation of the integrated deterrence and strengthens Joint readiness across the region. The diverse leaders and experts will also provide examples of how, together, armies in the Indo-Pacific form the security architecture that binds the region together and discuss the important role the Theater Army in the region, U.S. Army Pacific, plays in generating and providing that decisive Landpower and integrated deterrence through Capability + Posture + Messaging + Will.

As the Theater Army’s commander, Flynn has described Landpower as something that has been absolutely critical for a long time, but now, more than ever, the constant commitment to building connections and readiness with partners and allies is central to maintaining a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific.”

The panel will also be livestreamed at www.twitter.com/USARPAC on October 11th, 2022, 10:00 a.m. (EST).
