USS Germantown (LSD 42)

PHUKET, Thailand – Sailors and Marines from the Whidbey Island-class dock landing ship USS Germantown (LSD 42) and embarked 3rd Marine Division arrived in Phuket, Thailand, Nov. 3.

“It’s great to be able to bring our blue and gold team to one of Thailand’s beautiful cities,” said Cdr. Christopher Causee, commanding officer. “We look forward to strengthening regional security and alliances along with fostering new friendships during this visit.”

During the visit, Germantown will work with local partners to rehabilitate a memorial with the locals during a community project. Many crew members will be able to work side-by-side with local partners and friends while learning about different traditions.

“I am excited to be able to not only visit Thailand, but to also assist the community project,” said Religious Program Specialist Mauricio Melo. “It always gives me great joy to be able to visit new places, meet new people and learn about culture while giving a helping hand; so I am excited.”

Germantown, part of Commander, Amphibious Squadron 11, is deployed to the Indo-Pacific region to enhance interoperability with partners and serve as a ready-response force for any type of contingency.
