Indonesia-U.S.-Japan LNG Workshop Promotes Energy Partnerships in a Free and Open Indo-Pacific
07 March 2019
Download
Indonesia -- Indonesia, the United States, and Japan convened a workshop on March 5, focused on meeting Indonesia’s growing demand for liquefied natural gas (LNG). Over 250 attendees from both the public and private sectors discussed Indonesia’s LNG growth plans and how Japanese, American, and Indonesian companies can contribute through financing and technology. Japanese and U.S. government participants also described international efforts to support energy security and promote open, transparent, and rules-based energy markets.
Ms. Heather Variava, U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires emphasized, “The U.S. government stands ready to do all we can to support energy collaboration between our three countries to advance a free and open Indo-Pacific. The United States, as a leading LNG exporter and technology provider, is ready to partner with Indonesia and Japan to meet increased energy demand.”
Mr. Keiichi Ono, Embassy of Japan Chargé d’Affaires, said, “Japan, as the largest LNG importer in the world, has already committed to drastically expanding the financing support provided through Japanese Government to enhance LNG value chain development in the region, and also expand our support for capacity building. I am confident that we will find opportunities for trilateral cooperation that harness each of our country’s expertise in this area.”
Japan and the United States, through our Japan-U.S. Strategic Energy Partnership, look forward to continuing cooperation with Indonesia to grow sustainable and secure energy markets throughout the Indo-Pacific region.
