PACAF F-16 Demo Team's First Female Electrical and Environmental Systems Technician

By Senior Airman Brittany A. Chase 35th Fighter Wing Public Affairs

MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan -- The Pacific Air Forces' F-16 Fighting Falcon Demonstration Team participated in the Farnborough International Air Show, the world’s largest aerospace industry event, held bi-annually in Farnborough, United Kingdom, from July 15-22.

During the trip, U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Megan Umino, the Pacific Air Forces' F-16 Demonstration Team electrical and environmental systems craftsman, played a critical role in ensuring the pilots' safety before every flight.

Umino is the first electrical and environmental systems female technician in the history of the team.

"My favorite thing about being on the demo team is the camaraderie," said Umino, a Yuba City, California native. "Being able to gain an in depth perspective and understanding of what the crew chiefs, engines, avionics and pilots do on the daily has allowed me to learn a lot in the short amount of time I have been on the team. WOOD!"

Her primary duties include troubleshooting, inspecting, removing, installing, repairing, modifying, overhauling and operating aircraft electrical and environmental systems, components and associated support equipment, as well as acting as the team's videographer.
