Navy Information Warfare to Spotlight Cyber, Technology at Sea-Air-Space Expo

Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command Public Affairs

WASHINGTON -- This year's U.S. Navy Information Warfare (IW) pavilion at the Navy League's Sea-Air-Space (SAS) Exposition will demonstrate the Navy's commitment to warfighting in the information age through the use of speakers, panels, subject matter experts and capability displays April 9-11.

Commands from across the IW domain, including the Office of the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Information Warfare (OPNAV N2N6), Fleet Cyber Command/U.S. 10th Fleet (FCC/C10F), Navy Information Forces Command (NAVIFOR), Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR), and Program Executive Office Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence (PEO C4I), will come together to showcase some of the most recent efforts to improve cybersecurity and technology in the fleet.

The IW mission area provides Battlespace Awareness, Assured Command and Integrated Fires to achieve freedom of maneuver across all warfighting domains, including the electromagnetic spectrum, space, and cyberspace.

Vice Adm. Jan Tighe, the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Information Warfare (OPNAV N2N6), emphasized that the demonstrations and speakers series in the 2018 IW pavilion are designed to initiate and facilitate relevant and crucial conversation among key Navy decision makers and our partners in the U.S. defense industrial base.

"The Chief of Naval Operations is focused on building and maintaining the Navy the Nation Needs," said Tighe. "He calls for a bigger fleet, a better fleet, a networked fleet, a more talented fleet, an agile fleet and a ready fleet. The Information Warfare community, through many of the systems, initiatives and capabilities that we'll talk about and demonstrate at Sea Air Space, plays a big role in building that Navy the Nation Needs. Our partnerships with industry are crucial to the process."

In this year's IW pavilion, demonstrations will spotlight various systems and capabilities that currently enhance information warfighting, including multi-intelligence, network systems, tactical sensor management, military satellite communications and unmanned undersea vehicles. The Intelligence Carry On Program (ICOP), Mobile User Objective System (MUOS) and Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services (CANES) are just a few of the technologies to be featured.

The speaker series will encompass a broad range of topics and provide extensive insight into the IW community mission areas and focus.

Leaders in the IW community who will participate in the speakers series include Vice Adm. Jan Tighe, OPNAV N2N6; Rear Adm. Christian "Boris" Becker, commander, Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command; Rear Adm. Danelle Barrett, director, Navy Cyber Security Division, Rear Adm. Carl Chebi, program executive officer, PEO C4I and PEO Space Systems; Ruth Youngs Lew, program executive officer, PEO Enterprise Information Systems and Margaret Palmieri, director, Digital Warfare Office.

The Navy League's Sea-Air-Space Exposition was founded in 1965 as a means to bring the U.S. defense industrial base, private-sector U.S. companies and key military decision makers together for an annual innovative, educational, professional and maritime based event located in the heart of Washington, DC. Sea-Air-Space is now the largest maritime exposition in the U.S. and continues as an invaluable extension of the Navy League's mission of maritime policy education and sea service support.
