U.S. Navy Supports Australia’s Indo-Pacific Deployment Alongside Canada, Japan in the South China Sea

SOUTH CHINA SEA - The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Milius (DDG 69) conducts a trilateral training exercise with the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force Murusame-class destroyer JS Kirisame (DD-104), the Royal Australian Navy Supply-class auxiliary replenishment oiler HMAS Stalwart (A304), and the Hobart-class air warfare destroyer HMAS Hobart (DDG 39) while operating in the South China Sea, Oct. 07. The United States, with Japan Maritime Self Defense Force and Royal Canadian Navy are participating in multi-lateral exercises in the South China Sea in support of the Royal Australian Navy’s regional presence deployment. Exercises like this reassure our allies and partners of our combined commitment to maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific.
