SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, Hawaii -- 18 United States Army Health Clinic- Schofield Barracks (USAHC-SB) conducted Medical Evacuation familiarization training to over 300 Soldiers and Civilians on Model Range Area X, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, on 11 Oct, 2018. The readiness focused training exposed military and civilian staff on the capabilities and operational mission of C/ 3-25 MEDEVAC, 25th Combat Aviation Brigade. The training included a myriad of different opportunities to learn encompassing many learning styles. Soldiers and Civilian staff learned static display and orientation of the aircraft; received a capabilities brief of the aircraft, crew, and equipment; practiced loading and unloading of litter patients; and participated in hoist and jungle penetrator hands on training and familiarization flights.

The training was extremely beneficial in exposing military and civilian staff on the operational role of the MEDEVAC Company in both garrison and in support of combat operations. The training was well received by USAHC-SB Staff. Mr. Juan Almont-Done stated, "It is important for us to know what our role is if a medical emergency arises. MEDEVAC training can get our staff in tune with the tactical procedures that need to be followed to save a life." SGT Julius Tuvilla, a Behavioral Health NCO agreed, he stated, "I have learned the proper way of transporting casualties from the ground and on to the helicopter, as well as the importance of coordination and collaboration of the ground medics and the on-board MEDEVAC crew." Among all of the staff training, one theme was clear amongst them, "teamwork." Ms. Kuteshia Jackson summed it up best about why it was so important to do a collaborative training with the military, "A large part of the staff is civilian employees who may one day be called upon to assist with transporting a patient in an emergency situation."
