Four Nations’ Navies Flex Partnership While Operating in the Western Pacific

PHILIPPINE SEA - Aircraft assigned to Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 5 and CVW 17 fly over the Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Wayne E. Meyer (DDG 108), aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68), Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) Murasame-class frigate JS Samidare (DD 106) and the JMSDF Izumo-class helicopter destroyer JS Izumo (DDH 183) as they sail in formation in the Philippine Sea, June 9, 2023. Antietam is assigned to Commander, Task Force (CTF) 70, and Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 5, and is participating in a multiple large deck event, that has U.S. Navy carrier strike groups led by flagships USS Nimitz (CVN 68) and USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), joined with Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force’s (JMSDF) Izumo-class helicopter destroyer JS Izumo (DDH 183) along with surface units from Canada and France.
