Sri Lanka and U.S. Militaries Commence Joint Training Exercise

In this file photo, Commanding Officer, Cmdr. Matthew Smidt(left), observes formation maneuvers with Sri Lanka naval officers on the bridge wing aboard the guided-missile destroyer USS Spruance (DDG 111) during the sea phase of the U.S. Navy’s 25th annual Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) exercise series with the Sri Lanka navy, April 20, 2019. U. S. Sailors and Marines join the Sri Lankan Armed Forces to conduct partnered training that focuses on building interoperability during both the sea and shore phases of the exercise. During the exercise, Sailors and Marines will conduct a broad range of naval competencies ranging from explosive ordnance disposal, underwater diving sessions and civil engineering to search and rescue and humanitarian assistance and disaster response.
