USS Makin Island Commemorates Namesake

Amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) conducts a straits transit exercise along with amphibious transport dock ship USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26) and amphibious transport dock ship USS Anchorage (LPD 23), Aug. 11. Straits transit exercises demonstrate the ability of the U.S. Navy to uphold the country's commitment to free and open navigation around the world. . Makin Island, flagship of Amphibious Squadron (CPR) SEVEN, along with 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), is currently underway conducting integrated training in the U.S. 3rd fleet to prepare for an upcoming deployment.
