USS Ashland Arrives in Okinawa to Embark 31st MEU Marines

OKINAWA, Japan - Sailors aboard the amphibious dock landing ship USS Ashland (LSD 48) secure the Landing Craft Utility (LCU) 1633 to the well deck as the LCU offloads vehicles and equipment aboard the ship as it pulls into Okinawa, Japan to embark the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) in advance of a regularly scheduled patrol in the Indo-Pacific. Ashland, assigned to the Wasp Expeditionary Strike Group, is on a scheduled deployment in the Indo-Pacific region to support training under the U.S. Pacific Fleet's Up-Gunned ESG concept and to serve as a forward multi-mission asset for any type of contingency.
