Soldiers from U.S. Army Aviation Battalion-Japan participate in a tour of the P-20 system, a mobile air traffic control platform operated by the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, during the second Tachikawa Helicopter Conference conducted July 26, 2016, in Camp Tachikawa, Japan. Hosted by the JGSDF Eastern Army, the conference brought together representatives from the Japan Self-Defense Forces, United States military branches, and Japan’s civil aviation authorities to exchange information and develop policies to conduct helicopter operations during a major disaster. As the only rotary wing battalion stationed in Japan, USAABJ serves as U.S. Army Japan’s primary asset for aviation support. USAABJ’s close partnership with its Japanese aviation counterparts has produced a bilateral agreement for the battalion to assist in an emergency response operation or disaster relief mission if the Japanese government requests it.
