Fleet Commanders Meet Virtually on USS Blue Ridge
Commander, U.S. 7th Fleet Vice Adm. Bill Merz, left, and 7th Fleet deputy commander Rear Adm. Robert Clark participate in the Fleet Commander’s Roundtable with Commander, Australian Fleet Rear Adm. Mark Hammond, Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) Commander in Chief Vice Adm. Hideki Yuasa, and Republic of Korea Fleet Vice Adm. Jongho Lee aboard the 7th Fleet flagship USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19). As the U.S. Navy's largest forward-deployed fleet, with its approximate 50-70 ships and submarines, 140 aircraft, and 20,000 Sailors in the area of operations at any given time, 7th Fleet conducts forward-deployed naval operations in support of U.S. national interests throughout a free and open Indo-Pacific area of operations to foster maritime security, promote stability, and prevent conflict alongside 35 other maritime nations and partners.

Air Defense Soldiers rehearse PATRIOT battle drills during Keen Sword/Orient Shield 21
Soldiers with 1st Battalion, 1st Air Defense Artillery Regiment, rehearse battle drills with the PATRIOT long-range, all-altitude, all-weather air defense system capable of countering tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and advanced aircrafts to enhance crew-drill proficiency during Keen Sword/Orient Shield 21 at Misawa Air Base, Japan, Oct. 28. KS/OS 21 is a joint expeditionary bilateral exercise, which allows Japan Self-Defense Forces and U.S. military forces to work together across a variety of areas, enhancing the interoperability of U.S. and Japan forces.

U.S., Japan, Australia conduct trilateral naval exercises in South China Sea
The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS John S. McCain (DDG 56), rear, Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) destroyer JS Kirisame (DD 104), middle, and Royal Australian Navy frigate HMAS Arunta (FFH 151) sail together in the South China Sea during multinational exercises. These exercises marked the fifth time of 2020 that Australia, Japan, and the U.S. have conducted operations together in the 7th Fleet area of operations.

18th Wing CPI events lead maintainers to groundbreaking results

The 18th Wing must be ready to cooperate with regional partners, ready to compete against peer adversaries, and ready to fight tonight should there be a need to do so. III MEF explores innovative concepts through Big Ideas Challenges

Stacy Clardy, the III Marine Expeditionary Force commanding general, launched the first Big Ideas Challenge last August to unleash the creativity and ingenuity of III MEF Marines and sailors against the most pressing challenges facing the Marine Corps. Expeditionary advanced basing capabilities on display during Exercise Noble Fury
U.S. Marines with 12th Marine Regiment, 3d Marine Division, conduct a simulated High Mobility Artillery Rocket System fire mission while demonstrating expeditionary advanced basing capabilities Oct. 7 to 8, 2020, as part of Exercise Noble Fury, from Okinawa to Ie Shima and across surrounding waters. The Marines rapidly inserted via an air assault, defeated simulated adversary forces, secured the airfield, and established defensive positions around the island to enable follow-on operations in support of the navy including a HIMARS Rapid Infiltration mission under the cover of darkness. This exercise showcased survivability and lethality of the Navy and Marine Corps while operating in a distributed maritime environment.

1st Lt. Rio Sarmiento, assigned to the 16th Space Control Squadron (SPCS), was administered the oath of office into the United States Space Force by U.S. Marine Col. Michael Nakonieczny, commanding officer of the 31st MEU, aboard amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6). Sarmiento was transferred from being an Air Force Space Operations Officer to becoming the first Space Force Liaison Officer (LNO) deployed with the 31st MEU. America, flagship of the America Expeditionary Strike Group, 31st MEU team, is operating in the U.S. 7th fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.

Valiant Shield
Ships participating in Valiant Shield 2020 steam in formation while E/A-18G Growlers and FA-18E Super Hornets from Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 5, a P-8 Poseidon assigned to Commander Task Force 72, and U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptors and a B-1B Bomber fly over the formation. Valiant Shield is a U.S. only, biennial field training exercise (FTX) with a focus on integration of joint training in a blue-water environment among U.S. forces. This training enables real-world proficiency in sustaining joint forces through detecting, locating, tracking and engaging units at sea, in the air, on land and in cyberspace in response to a range of mission areas.
