Ospreys conclude earthquake airlift support
YATSUSHIRO BAY, Japan (April 22, 2016) An MV-22B Osprey from Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 265 (Reinforced) attached to the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit is loaded with relief supplies as an SH-60K Sea Hawk helicopter from the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force takes off from the destroyer helicopter ship JS Hyuga (DDH) 181. At request of the Japanese government, U.S. Forces Japan is providing airlift support to Japanese Self-Defense Forces (JSDF). A JSDF task force of more than 25,000 personnel is providing humanitarian and disaster relief assistance to the people affected by the magnitude 6.5 and 7.3 earthquakes that struck the Kumamoto area on 14 and 16 April 2016.
