31st MEU completes fall patrol, returns to Okinawa
U.S. Marines wait aboard the USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) before going ashore after returning from their Fall Patrol of the Asia-Pacific region, Oct. 28, 2016. As the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward deployed unit, the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit is prepared to respond to a wide range of military operations, from humanitarian assistance missions to limited combat operations, at a moment’s notice. As a balanced air-ground-logistics team, the 31st MEU is ready to respond throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

Ambassador Caroline Kennedy Greets Service Members, Families on Okinawa

The community center was one stop along a tour of the military installations across Okinawa during which Kennedy addressed senior military leadership and their families living on Okinawa directly. “I am always inspired by the patriotism I see here when I visit,” said Kennedy. “I want to thank everyone here for everything that you do for this outstanding partnership with Japan. There is a lot to learn here and all you leaders are doing a great job maintaining positive community involvement. I encourage you to continue to educate service members to ensure that we continue to enjoy the support and alliance we have here in Japan.” After her speech, Kennedy posed for photos with attendees and their families. Young is the sergeant major of Headquarters and Support Battalion, Marine Corps Installations Pacific. DePue is the camp commander of Camp Foster and the commanding officer of H&S Bn., MCIPAC.

Innovations Save Lives
Cpl. Matthew A. Long turns a wrench on a High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) engine on Camp Kinser, Okinawa, Japan, October 25, 2016. Long was selected as a winner in a Marine Corps logistical innovation competition for incorporating a blood clotting agent and pain killer with a Small Arms Protective Insert (SAPI) to minimize the time between injury and aid. USS Frank Cable Arrives in Sasebo, Japan
SASEBO, Japan (Oct. 10, 2016) - Petty Officer 1st Class Isaiah King, assigned to the submarine tender USS Frank Cable (AS 40), mans a M2HB machine gun while the ship pulls in to Sasebo, Japan, Oct. 10. Frank Cable is one of two forward-deployed submarine tenders and is on a scheduled deployment in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations to conduct maintenance and support of deployed U.S. naval force submarines and surface vessels in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.

CAMP FOSTER, OKINAWA, Japan -- Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Sgt. Imato translates JGSDF rules of engagement to U.S. Marines during the annual Guard and Protect, an observe and exchange event Oct. 6 aboard Camp Foster, Okinawa, Japan. The three-day event sharpened U.S. and JGSDF service members’ abilities to defense installations through the observation and exchange of tactical procedures and operational concepts. The training included patrolling, rules of engagement and vehicle search and seizure procedures.

AV-8B Harrier Flight Operations Resume In Japan
U.S Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Lawrence D. Nicholson announces the resumption of AV-8B Harrier flight operations in Japan during a press conference Oct. 5, 2016 on Camp Foster, Okinawa, Japan following a Harrier mishap that occurred approximately 115 nautical miles off the coast of Okinawa, Sept. 22, 2016. III Marine Expeditionary Force directed an operational pause following the incident. Squadrons and maintenance personnel reviewed their standard operating procedures, safety of flight procedures, technical procedures, inspecting material readiness and host of other activities during the pause in operations. It was determined that all squadron aircraft have been found safe to resume flights, Oct. 7.
