Coast Guard conducts long-range medevac for citizen of Ecuador from remote Pacific

HONOLULU, Hawaii - Petty Officer 1st Class Luis Garcia, a Coast Guard operations specialist and Spanish interpreter, gathers information about the injured man being medically evacuated from another crewmember of the vessel San Andres, while at the airport in Christmas Island, Republic of Kiribati, Nov. 9, 2017. Watchstanders at the Joint Rescue Coordination Center Honolulu received a request from Rescue Coordination Center Madrid in Spain for assistance regarding a man who experienced severe trauma to his leg while working aboard the 256-foot Ecuadorian flagged fishing vessel, San Andres. The man was transferred from the vessel to the Hercules airplane on Christmas Island, for further transport to Honolulu.
