Get to the Chopper: Air Assault Company
Battalion Landing Team, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines, is comprised of various units, task organized to accomplish the different missions the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit is expected to be prepared for. One of the most versatile and dynamic capabilities that 2/1 offers would be the ability to vertically envelop the enemy and conduct offensive operations to seize, occupy and defend an objective. This is the job of Echo Company, tasked as BLT 2/1, 31st MEU’s Air Assault Company, currently deployed aboard the USS Wasp (LHD 1), as they take part in Talisman Sabre 2019, a biennial exercise between the U.S. and Australia.

Capt. Patrick Hannifin, commanding officer of the Navy’s forward-deployed aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), greets Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack, deputy prime minister of Australia, on the flight deck during Talisman Sabre 2019. McCormack was among a group of dignitaries including the Honorable Sharon Hudson Dean, U.S. Consul General and Vice Adm. Michael Noonan, Chief of the Australian Navy who were given a tour of the hangar bay and flight deck control before observing flight operations. Talisman Sabre 2019 illustrates the closeness of the Australian and U.S. alliance and the strength of the military-to-military relationship. This is the eighth iteration of this exercise.

Fleet Activities Yokosuka’s 26th Annual Spring Festival Attracts 37,000 Visitors
LTJG Brandon Vitton gives Japanese media a tour of the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Chancellorsville’s (CG 62) bridge on March 30. Chancellorsville, which is forward deployed at U.S. Fleet Activities Yokosuka, welcomed media and thousands of other Japanese guests during the installation’s 26th annual Spring Festival. Fleet Activities Yokosuka provides, maintains, and operates base facilities and services in support of 7th Fleet's forward-deployed naval forces, 71 tenant commands, and more than 27,000 military and civilian personnel.
