Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group Conducts Bilateral Exercise with Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force
The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) Kongo-class guided-missile destroyer JS Kongo (DDG 173), front, and JMSDF Asahi-class destroyer JS Asahi (DD 119) transit the Pacific Ocean Jan. 15, 2021 with the Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group. The Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group is on a scheduled deployment to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations. As the U.S. Navy's largest forward deployed fleet, with its approximate 50-70 ships and submarines, 140 aircraft, and 20,000 Sailors in the area of operations at any given time, 7th Fleet conducts forward-deployed naval operations in support of U.S. national interests throughout a free and open Indo-Pacific area of operations to foster maritime security, promote stability, and prevent conflict alongside 35 other maritime nations and partners.

VBSS is a part of Maritime Interception Operations that aim to delay, disrupt, or destroy enemy forces or supplies in the maritime domain. III Marine Expeditionary Force and 7th Fleet Join for Staff Talks at Sea Aboard Flagship
U.S. 7th Fleet Vice Adm. Bill Merz and Commanding General, III Marine Expeditionary Force Lt. Gen. H. USS Wayne E. Meyer Returns Home from Indo-Pacific Deployment

Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear Marines with Marine Aircraft Group 36 conduct a decontamination during a “no-notice” embassy reinforcement and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear response drill on Camp Futenma, Okinawa, Japan, Oct. 31, 2019. The exercise demonstrated the MEU’s ability to conduct planning, insertion, execution, and retrograde at distances of up to 600 miles within 72 hours. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
