BUSAN, Republic of Korea

U.S. Navy Rear Adm. Christopher Sweeney, commander, Carrier Strike Group 11, visits the United Nations Memorial in Busan, Republic of Korea. The aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) is in the U.S. 7th Fleet conducting routine operations. 7th Fleet is the U.S. Navy's largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, and routinely interacts and operates with allies and partners in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific region. PACIFIC OCEAN

A Standard Missile-6 (SM-6) Dual II with Software Upgrade (SWUP) is launched from the USS Daniel Inouye (DDG 118) off the coast of the Pacific Missile Range Facility in Kauai, Hawaii as part of Flight Test Aegis Weapon System 31 Event 1a (FTM-31 E1a), March 30, 2023. The Missile Defense Agency, in cooperation with the U. S. Navy, held the successful missile defense event that demonstrated the capability of a ballistic missile defense (BMD)-configured Aegis ship to detect, track, engage, and intercept a medium range ballistic missile target in the terminal phase of flight utilizing the SM-6 Dual II SWUP in a single salvo of two interceptors. A U.S. Air National Guard C-17 Globemaster III assigned to the 176th Wing conducts touch-and-gos during Landing Zone Safety Officer training at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, March 23, 2023. USS NIMITZ

The aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) steams in formation with the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN) destroyer ROKS Sejong the Great (DDG 991), Chungmugong Yi Sun-Sin-class multipurpose destroyer ROKS Choe Yeong (DDH 981), Cheonji-class fast combat support ship ROKS Hwacheon (AOE 59), the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers USS Decatur (DDG 73) and USS Wayne E. Meyer (DDG 108) during a bilateral exercise. The Nimitz Carrier Strike Group is conducting a bilateral maritime exercise with the ROKN in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations. 7th Fleet is the U.S. Navy's largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, and routinely interacts and operates with Allies and partners in preserving a free and open Indo Pacific region. Bruce Boolowon, the only surviving member of the June 22, 1955, rescue team March 28, 2023, in Gambell, Alaska. The Alaska Heroism Medal is the state’s highest award for valor during peacetime.
