U.S. Air Force, Navy Operate aboard Destroyer in East China Sea
Airmen assigned to 961st Airborne Air Control Squadron onboard Kadena Air Base participate in operations from the Combat Information Center aboard Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Dewey (DDG 105). Dewey is assigned to Task Force 71/Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 15, the Navy’s largest forward-deployed DESRON and the U.S. 7th fleet’s principal surface force.

Allies, Modernization at Heart of U.S.-Japan Efforts in Indo-Pacific
Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Soldiers assigned to the 1st Airborne Brigade descend from a U.S. Air Force C-130J Super Hercules assigned to the 36th Airlift Squadron over JGSDF Narashino Training Area, Japan, April 19, 2022, during a bilateral airborne jump. Ninety-nine JGSDF paratroopers assigned to the 1st Airborne Brigade conducted airborne jump from Two Air Force C-130J Super Hercules. The goal of this event is to improve interoperability between the USAF and JGSDF by defense and information exchanges to deepen mutual understanding of each unit, and to further cement the U.S. and Japanese alliance.

Expert Soldier Badge Candidates Traverse Land Navigation
A U.S. Army Japan soldier plots a point on a map during the land navigation portion of the USARJ Expert Soldier Badge training week April 14. The two-week ESB training and testing identifies soldiers who possess the mastery of skills integral to ensuring combat readiness, including weapons proficiency, land navigation, patrolling and medical comprehension. Stay tuned as only those who meet the standards by demonstrating combat readiness and proficiency skills will be awarded the coveted ESB next week.

Yokota receives control module, steam generator for base power plant
Contractors from the Schneider Electric offload a Heat Recovery Steam Generator to the new power plant at Yokota Air Base, Japan, April 13, 2022. Construction at Yokota is projected to be completed in early 2023, and is predicted to annually save approximately 75,000 kilowatt hours of electricity and 30 million gallons of water. In all, the base will gain an additional 10 megawatts of power for critical readiness capabilities, environmentally friendly facilities and large cost cut.

Yokota Airmen conduct annual Aircraft Arresting System certification
A Navy F/A-18E Super Hornet, assigned to the Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 27 “Royal Maces” deploys a J-Hook to engage the Aircraft Arresting System (AAS), during an annual certification test of the flightline BAK-12 barrier, AAS at Yokota Air Base, Japan, Feb. 4, 2022. The AAS utilizes the arresting hooks attached to the tail of an aircraft to safely decelerate and stop the aircraft when needed to land in short distances. Ensuring the BAK-12 is fully functional through certification testing reinforces Yokota’s multi-capable presence in the Indo-Pacific region.

The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), transits the Philippine Sea in preparation for a replenishment-at-sea (RAS) with the Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Halsey (DDG 97). U.S. Navy cruisers and destroyers fulfill critical rolls to forward-deployed naval forces, Carrier Strike Group, and regional partners and allies in supporting the security and the right of all nations to trade, to communicate, and to choose their destiny in a Free and Open Indo-Pacific.
