Hawaii Sailors join the Effort to Build Resilient Partners in Pacific Partnership 2016
160518-N-IU636-1065 PEARL HARBOR (May 18, 2016) Sailors assigned to the hospital ship USNS Mercy (T-AH 19) demonstrate medical training procedures on a simulated man aboard Mercy while moored at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. Mercy is deployed in support of Pacific Partnership 2016. Pacific Partnership, in its 11th year, is the largest annual multilateral humanitarian assistance and disaster relief preparedness mission conducted in the region, and was born out of the military-led response to the tsunami that struck parts of Southeast Asia in December 2004. It is designed to improve disaster response preparedness while enhancing partnerships with participating nations in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region. CVW 9 Commander Achieves 1,000th Trap

Richard Brophy, commander, Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 9 lands an F/A-18E Super Hornet assigned to the Tophatters of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 14 on USS John C. Stennis' (CVN 74) flight deck during routine flight operations. This marks Brophy's 1,000th arrested landing on an aircraft carrier. Providing a ready force supporting security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific, John C. Stennis is operating as part of the Great Green Fleet on a regularly scheduled 7th Fleet deployment. Pacific Surface Action Group stops at Pearl Harbor for a scheduled port visit

Navy Personnel Prepare for Kumamoto Relief Support
SASEBO, Japan (April 18, 2016) - Navy personnel from the amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) prepare to embark a MH-60S Seahawk helicopter at U.S. Fleet Activities Sasebo in support of Kumamoto earthquake disaster relief efforts. At the request of the Japanese government, U.S. Forces Japan is providing airlift support to Japanese Self-Defense Forces (JSDF). A JSDF task force of more than 25,000 personnel is providing humanitarian and disaster relief assistance to the people affected by the magnitude 6.5 and 7.3 earthquakes that struck the Kumamoto area on 14 and 16 April 2016. Sailors aboard the submarine tender USS Emory S. Land (AS 39) man the rails as the ship returns from deployment, April 11, 2016. The return to Guam is Emory S. Land's first, since changing homeport from Diego Garcia to Guam Dec. 23. Emory S. The 132-foot ship is able to travel thousands of miles over open seas for months at a time with no crew members aboard.
