Assistant Secretary Russel Travel to Laos, Vietnam, and Malaysia

WASHINGTON, DC -- Assistant Secretary for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel Russel will travel to Vientiane and Luang Prabang, Laos; Hanoi, Vietnam; and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, May 6–12.

On May 6, Assistant Secretary Russel will visit Vientiane, Laos, to take part in the U.S.-Lao Comprehensive Bilateral Dialogue with a Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs delegation. May 7-8, Assistant Secretary Russel will meet with senior officials in Luang Prabang, for the Lower Mekong Initiative, Friends of the Lower Mekong, East Asia Summit, and ASEAN Regional Forum.

Assistant Secretary Russel will travel to Hanoi, Vietnam, May 9–10, to meet with senior officials to discuss U.S.-Vietnam bilateral relations, the South China Sea, and ASEAN issues.

May 11-12, Assistant Secretary Russel will travel to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to attend the 29th ASEAN-U.S. Dialogue. He will also meet with senior Malaysian officials to discuss bilateral issues including security cooperation and TPP implementation.
