665th Movement Control Team Exemplifies Teamwork at Pohang Railhead

16 March 2016

From Capt. James Sheehan

DAEGU, SOUTH KOREA -- 665th Movement Control Team, 25th Transportation Battalion conducted rail operations in support of a U.S. Marine exercise at Dogu Beach, Pohang, Mar. 15.

665th MCT, U.S. Marines, and Korail employees worked together to load and transport 10 M1 Abram tanks from the Pacific Ocean to Pohang's east coast to their final destination in southern Korea, Gwangyang.

"This is the first time we have conducted this type of mission at the Pohang railhead," said Capt. Jeremy DeLoach, commander of the 665th MCT. "Overall, the operation was a huge success."

665th MCT inspected each Abram after U.S. Marines transported the tanks to the beach via Landing Craft Air Cushions. Marines used "Low Boys," contracted by 665th MCT, to transport the tanks approximately two miles from the beach to the railhead.

Once the tanks arrived at the railhead, 665th MCT meticulously inspected the placement of each tank to ensure safe travel. They inspected width, height, tie-downs, bindings, bracings and proper documentation. They trained Marines on how to conduct railhead operations, specifically in the Republic of Korea.

"Training Marines had to be the most valuable part of this mission. Soldiers, Marines and Koreans working together gave everyone a sense of accomplishment and pride in their work," DeLoach said.

665th MCT knows the meaning of teamwork. They coordinated for buses to transport Marines from the beach to Gwangyang. They also coordinated with Korean Military Police to ensure uninterrupted travel from the beach to the railhead. They worked with Korail to confirm available railcars and time to transport the tanks.

517th MCT, 25th Transportation Battalion will be responsible for conducting inspection and movement coordination for the Abrams' return.
