Secretary of Defense Ash Carter met with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak following the secretary's participation in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Defense Ministers' Meeting - Plus (ADMM-Plus) in Kuala Lumpur.  

Secretary Carter congratulated Prime Minister Najib on Malaysia's chairmanship of ASEAN this year, and the two exchanged views on regional security and economic issues. They also discussed joint efforts to counter terrorism. The secretary expressed his commitment to maintaining strong U.S. defense ties with Malaysia and discussed ways that the United States and Malaysia can continue to work together to realize shared security goals.
