U.S. Strategic Command Commander Visits Asia-Pacific Region

22 June 2015

From USSTRATCOM Public Affairs

OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. – U.S. Navy Adm. Cecil D Haney, U.S. Strategic Command commander, arrived in the Asia-Pacific region to continue building and maintaining enduring relationships with partner nations and other combatant commands, June 19.

The trip, which will include stops in Hawaii, the Republic of Korea, Japan and Alaska, supports USSTRATCOM’s efforts to confront the broad range of global strategic challenges and the United States’ rebalance to the Pacific.

“As Secretary Carter said last month, America’s future rests with the Asia-Pacific,” said Haney. “This engagement is an opportunity to reaffirm and assure the Republic of Korea and Japan of our deterrence commitments, to deter potential adversaries and to advance information sharing in space and cyberspace.”

During Haney’s visit to the region, he is scheduled to meet with the U.S. Pacific Command commander, the Republic of Korea’s Joint Chief of Staff chairman, Japan’s Joint Staff chief of staff and other leaders for a variety of bilateral discussions on topics of mutual interest.

USSTRATCOM is one of nine DoD unified combatant commands and is charged with strategic deterrence; space operations; cyberspace operations; joint electronic warfare; global strike; missile defense; intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; combating weapons of mass destruction; and analysis and targeting.
