On Tuesday, June 9th, The United States Government, in partnership with the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), opened a four-day training workshop on International Border Interdiction for the Border Patrol Unit of the National Police of Timor-Leste in Dili.

The International Border Interdiction training includes sessions on behavioral analysis, document analysis, vehicle and container examinations, explosive detection, preventing human trafficking and other key elements of border interdiction, including a one-day practical exercise for all the participants. The training sessions will be led by officers from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, as well as the Canadian Border Services Agency.

"This is the second round of the training series for PNTL and Indonesian Law enforcement agencies as part of a two-year, $830,000 program that the U.S. Embassy has funded to support efforts by UNODC to train and equip the Border Patrol Unit. We do hope that the participants will be benefit and have the opportunity to share their experiences and learning from the trainers from U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Canadian Border Services Agency," said Katherine Dueholm, Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S Embassy Dili.
