Key Resolve/Foal Eagle Exercise 2014
10 February 2014
From United States Forces Korea
The Republic of Korea-United States Combined Forces Command announced that the annual Key Resolve and Foal Eagle exercises will take place.
Key Resolve, scheduled for Feb. 24 - Mar. 6, 2014, is an annual command post exercise that ensures the ROK-U.S. Alliance is prepared to defend the ROK, while training Alliance forces to respond to any potential event on the peninsula.
"Key Resolve is a vital exercise to strengthen readiness of the Republic of Korea and U.S. Alliance. I look forward to training with all of our ROK, U.S. and Sending State participants," said Gen. Curtis M. Scaparrotti, Combined Forces Command commander. "The scenarios are realistic, enabling us to train on our essential tasks and respond to any crisis which may arise."
Approximately 5,200 U.S. Forces will participate in KR 14, about 1,100 of which will come from off peninsula. Forces from major ROK units representing all services will also participate in KR14.
The annual Foal Eagle exercise will take place Feb. 24 - Apr. 18, 2014. Foal Eagle is a series of joint and combined field training exercises conducted by CFC and USFK components spanning ground, air, naval, expeditionary, and special operations. As in past years, CFC will release a list of Foal Eagle events open to media coverage near the start of the exercise.
Approximately 7,500 U.S. forces will participate in FE14, about 5,100 of which will come from off peninsula. Forces from major ROK units representing all services will also participate in FE14.
The United Nations Command has informed the Korean People's Army in North Korea through their Panmunjom mission about both Key Resolve and Foal Eagle exercise dates and the non-provocative nature of this training.
