President of the Republic of Palau visits Hawaii

Paparo and Whipps attended a working lunch, which provided an opportunity to discuss regional updates since their last meeting in October.

In accordance with the Compact of Free Association, Navy Rear Adm. Gregory Huffman, commander, Joint Task Force-Micronesia, chaired the biannual JCM, which embodies the strength of the U.S.-Palau relationship and commitment to defend the Pacific homeland, deter malign aggression, and continue advancements in our security and defense partnership.

The Republic of Palau comprises 340-plus islands strategically located in the Western Pacific bordering the Philippines. Upon gaining independence in 1981, the nation entered a Compact of Free Association with the United States in 1994.
