Lt. Gen. Joshua M. Rudd, deputy commander of U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, traveled to Singapore where he met with senior military and government officials and participated in the International Institute for Strategic Studies’ Shangri-La Dialogue Sherpa Meeting, Jan. 18-22, 2025.   

The annual Shangri-La Dialogue Sherpa Meeting, hosted by IISS, brings senior military and defense officials together, providing an opportunity to evaluate evolving security challenges and defense diplomacy in the Indo-Pacific. Featured discussions included evolving defense partnerships, regional security, maritime domain awareness, and emerging technology.

During his trip, Rudd held bilateral meetings with senior military and government officials from Australia, France, Germany, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Sweden, Thailand, and the United Kingdom. He also met with leaders from the International Committee of the Red Cross. 

Additionally, Rudd participated in a roundtable discussion with members of the American Chamber of Commerce in Singapore on artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, commercial space capabilities, and developments in cybersecurity. The American Chamber of Commerce in Singapore is the largest international business association in Singapore and Southeast Asia, with nearly 700 member companies.

For nearly 60 years, the U.S. and Singapore have forged an expansive and enduring relationship based on mutual economic interests, robust security and defense cooperation, and strong people-to-people ties. As enduring friends, military and economic partners, both nations remain steadfast in safeguarding regional security and sovereignty in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific.
