Coast Guard Capt. Scott Wolland took command of the Coast Guard Reserve Unit at U.S. Indo-Pacific Command from Capt. Tabitha Schiro, in a ceremony on the historic USS Battleship Missouri Memorial, June 17.

The assistant commandant for Reserve, Rear Admiral Miriam L. Lafferty, presided over the ceremony. The admiral lauded Schiro for advancing partnerships across Indo-Pacific Command directorates and strengthening the relationship with Coast Guard Pacific Area and U.S. Indo-Pacific Command. “Your wealth of experience, unwavering dedication and remarkable leadership will undoubtedly leave an indelible impact here,” she said.

Lafferty welcomed Wolland into this key role, telling him to lead by example and continue the legacy of excellence of his predecessors. “Remember the Indo-Pacific region holds the key to our nation’s security and your leadership will contribute to our collective success,” she said.

The CGRU-INDOPACOM is a unique joint unit, in which members are dispersed throughout the U.S. Indo-Pacific combatant command, providing leadership, expertise, and support to the joint force. This unit showcases the important role the Coast Guard performs in the joint force to ensure the nation’s security, she said. “To the entire unit, thank you for your service and dedication,” the admiral said. “Your accomplishments have made a lasting impact and your commitment to the security in the Indo-Pacific region is commendable.”

Schiro leads the recruiting Incident Management Team at Coast Guard Headquarters; Wolland, who has served in the Coast Guard Reserve for more than 30 years, was most recently the Senior Reserve Officer for the Fifth Coast Guard District.
