22 May 2023

U.S. Embassy & Consulate in Thailand -- The Kingdom of Thailand and the United States co-hosted the Ratchaphruek Radiological Medical Response Workshop May 16-18, in Bangkok, Thailand. The workshop demonstrated U.S-Thai leadership to prevent radiological incidents and prepare for the unlikely event of a radiological attack. Conducted by the Thai Ministry of Public Health, the Office of Atoms for Peace, and the Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation at the U.S. Department of State, the workshop brought together 12 participating countries and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to share best practices and enhance regional response capabilities.

The Ratchaphruek Radiological Medical Response Workshop trained participants on medical readiness for a radiological incident, strengthened medical radiological response capabilities, and highlighted long-term health monitoring and recovery practices. The workshop provided the platform for experts from a variety of disciplines to facilitate greater international cooperation mechanisms and promote dialogue among the 12 participating nations of: Argentina, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Mongolia, Pakistan, Singapore, Thailand, Uzbekistan, and the United States.

The Ratchaphruek Radiological Medical Response Workshop showcased the U.S.-Thai shared commitment to enhance nuclear security and medical response capabilities, and is an example of how the 190-year-old U.S.-Thai partnership delivers tangible results for our people and the broader Indo-Pacific region.
