Australia co-hosts 2022 Indo-Pacific Chiefs of Defense conference
25 July 2022

Australia Government Defence -- The 24th annual Indo-Pacific Chiefs of Defense (CHODs) conference will be held in Sydney from 25 to 27 July 2022.
The conference will be co-hosted by Chief of the Defence Force, General Angus J. Campbell, AO, DSC and Commander U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, Admiral John C. Aquilino, providing senior military leaders with the opportunity to come together in the Indo-Pacific.
The theme for this year’s conference is Promoting the Rules-Based Order in the Indo-Pacific. The conference will focus on climate change and security implications for the Indo-Pacific; advanced technologies and their impact on security, and the implications of the conflict in Ukraine.
Admiral Aquilino said the conference advances conversations from last year’s conference and quarterly CHODs events and will continue to highlight issues of strategic importance in the Indo-Pacific.
“It’s through continuous, open dialogue from engagements like this where our common set of values and our commitment to a secure and prosperous region bring us together to find more ways to increase interoperability and share information and technologies,” Admiral Aquilino said.
Thirty countries have been invited, with participants representing the Indo-Pacific, Europe, North American and South American regions and other counterparts.
Chief of the Defence Force, General Angus Campbell said co-hosting the conference in Sydney was a great opportunity.
“Australia is honoured to co-host the 2022 Indo-Pacific Chiefs of Defense conference with the United States,” General Campbell said.
“I look forward to advancing our shared interests in maritime security, health security, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief and information sharing, as we strive to create a more open, inclusive and resilient Indo-Pacific region.”
