CAMP HUMPHREYS, Republic of Korea -- Eighth Army Deputy Commanding General for Sustainment Brig. Gen. Joseph D’costa recognized U.S. Army Garrison (USAG) Daegu for establishing a Culture of Safety and earning the prestigious U.S. Army Pacific Command Exceptional Organization Safety Award for the fourth time in five years this month.

The garrison was recognized for executing a comprehensive Safety and Occupational Health Program that resulted in zero Class A and B mishaps.

The U.S. Army Pacific Command Exceptional Organization Safety Award cited USAG Daegu’s Safety Office for exemplary COVID-19 mitigation efforts, engaged leadership and a robust accident prevention focus that contributed to superior mission accomplishment during the global pandemic.

Synchronization efforts have led to a notable drop in recordable accidents and improved safety for the military communities over the past few years. USAG Daegu has the largest footprint in Korea—encompassing almost half of the country and supporting approximately 10,000 Soldiers and Civilians. USAG Daegu manages base operations at six U.S. Army installations and eleven sites stretching from Daejeon to Busan. Major installations include Camp Henry, Camp Walker and Camp Carroll.

When Daegu, South Korea became an epicenter for COVID-19 in February 2020—the first large outbreak outside China—actions taken by the garrison successfully mitigated the spread of the virus and prevented collateral damage unlike many places around the world. USAG Daegu’s Safety Office has worked tirelessly to implement mitigation measures while maintaining critical services during COVID-19 restrictions over the past two years.
