U.S. Embassy Announces Malaysian Ringgit 1 Million Donation

30 December 2021

KUALA LUMPUR -- The U.S. Embassy in Kuala Lumpur today announced a RM 1 million donation to six Malaysian non-governmental organizations helping people adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. This donation will be able to directly support nearly 4,000 households.

With funding from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the U.S. Government has directed the donation in partnership with nationwide effort of civil society organizations to distribute care packages comprised of non-perishable foods and household essentials to struggling households during the global crisis. This donation will be able to directly support nearly 4,000 households.

“Through this initiative, USAID is supporting generous Malaysian organizations dedicated to helping families throughout the country,” said Dean Thompson, Charge d’Affairs at the U.S. Embassy “In addition to helping our friends amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, we also hope that our actions embrace the values of Ramadan – a time of reflection, charity, and spending time with family and friends.”

The assistance will be coordinated by the Malaysia Reform Initiative (MARI) Program and provisions sourced from local vendors. Partner organizations were chosen based on capacity and ability to reach those in need on the Peninsula and in Sabah and Sarawak.

Partner organizations include:
• Dignity for Children
• ABIM
• IKRAM
• Bersih 2.0
• Liga Rakyat Demokratik
• Suriana Welfare Society
