WASHINGTON -- Pentagon Press Secretary John F. Kirby provided the following readout:

Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III met on November 20 with Malaysian Minister of Defense Hishammuddin Hussein in Manama, Bahrain, during the annual Manama Dialogue.

Secretary Austin congratulated Minister Hishammuddin on his recent appointment as Minister of Defense, reiterated his support for a strong and enduring U.S.-Malaysia defense partnership, and welcomed closer cooperation between the two countries.

Secretary Austin noted that the strategic partnership between the United States and Malaysia is strengthened by shared democratic values and principles.
