KUALA LUMPUR, U.S. Embassy in Malaysia -- U.S. Ambassador to Malaysia Brian McFeeters oversaw a donation of PPE and rapid COVID tests to the Malaysian Ministry of Health today. Ambassador McFeeters met with and thanked Malaysian frontliners and said he hopes the contribution can help ease their tireless work in combating COVID-19.

“The U.S. and Malaysia have a long history of working together on public health issues, including in identifying emerging diseases and threats. I am committed to working with Malaysian government and health officials to do all we can to persevere and recover from COVID-19, and to building stronger health capacity and security for the future.”

Ambassador McFeeters also spoke about the United States’ commitment to global COVID-19 relief efforts. “Over the past two decades, the United States has provided more than $140 billion in global health assistance. We are the single largest contributor to the international response to COVID-19. We have pledged $4 billion through 2022 with half already given to COVAX, making the United States the largest contributor to the COVAX effort. This funding will greatly expand COVAX’s reach and represents our commitment to a coordinated international response. This is an international crisis that necessitates an international approach.”

The funds for this donation were provided through the Office of Defense Cooperation at the U.S. Embassy by the U.S. Department of Defense, USINDOPACOM Overseas Humanitarian, Disaster, and Civic Aid (ODHACA) office. The U.S. military along with civilian partners have a shared commitment to working together to address humanitarian issues around the world.
