U.S. Embassy in Cambodia -- The United States, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), is providing $100,000 in immediate humanitarian aid to support response efforts to severe flooding in Cambodia.

Across Cambodia, torrential rains since early October have caused flash floods that have killed at least 16 individuals, adversely affected more than 194,000 people, and led to widespread damage that has cut off access to many hard-hit communities.

In response, USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance is partnering with the U.N. World Food Programme (WFP) to provide emergency assistance to people impacted by the flooding.

With additional heavy rain and storms forecast in the coming days, USAID disaster experts continue to monitor humanitarian needs throughout Southeast Asia in close coordination with local emergency authorities and our partners on the ground.

Since 2018, USAID support has helped WFP to launch the first ever comprehensive disaster risk management platform (Platform for Real-Time Impact and Situation Monitoring – PRISM) in Cambodia in order to strengthen disaster preparedness and response, saving lives and reducing the socioeconomic impact of natural disasters.

USAID has provided more than $7 million in disaster response, preparedness, and risk reduction assistance in Cambodia since 2000. Through the recently launched Mekong-U.S. Partnership, the United States is also strengthening local disaster preparedness and responsiveness across the five Lower Mekong countries, including Cambodia.
