DILI, Timore-Leste -- The U.S. Embassy in Dili, Timor-Leste is scheduled to assist in repatriating approximately 14 U.S. citizens to the United States on April 12. The Department of State and the U.S. Embassy in Timor-Leste have no greater priority than the safety and security of U.S. citizens overseas. Due to the lack of commercial travel options, this weekend a special flight will be made available for U.S. citizens and U.S. lawful permanent residents who wish to do so to depart Timor-Leste. On March 19, 2020 the U.S. Department of State advised U.S. citizens to avoid all international travel due to the global impact of COVID-19. The U.S. Embassy in Dili is continuing operations with appropriate precautions consistent with the Timor-Leste government’s State of Emergency, and remains committed to supporting Timor-Leste including in addressing the COVID-19 challenge. On April 9, Ambassador Fitzpatrick announced that the United States through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has committed $1.1 million to help the Government of Timor-Leste fight COVID-19.
