SEOUL, Republic of Korea -- Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Adm. Mike Gilday visited the Republic of Korea (ROK) to engage with U.S. Sailors and ROK national and naval leadership, Sept. 25.

During the visit, Gilday met with Minister of Defense Jeong Kyeong-doo and Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Sim Seung-Seob. The leaders discussed a range of ROK-U.S. Alliance topics and emphasized the need to train and operate together in support of regional peace and security.

“Our nations share many common goals that are integral to promoting security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region, and it’s imperative that our navies continue to train as a combined force at all levels," said Gilday. “I am encouraged that the bond of friendship forged between our navies continues to grow stronger through leadership engagements like this.”

Gilday concluded his visit by engaging with Sailors from U.S. Forces Korea (USFK), Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Korea (CNFK), Special Operations Command Korea (SOCKOR), Navy Information Operations Detachment (NIOD), and Joint United States Military Affairs Group - Korea (JUSMAG-K) where he spoke with and answered questions from the group.

“Meeting with our Sailors operating in this region is incredibly important to me,” said Gilday. “The work they are doing is key to strengthening our nations’ partnership and alliance.”
