Navy to Establish NROTC Unit at University of Hawaii at Manoa

09 September 2019

WASHINGTON -- The Navy will establish a new Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) unit at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, beginning in academic year 2021-2022.

This partnership between the Navy and University of Hawaii at Manoa marks the first time the NROTC program is available to college students in the state of Hawaii.

“The people of Hawaii have always played a central role in the strength and capability of the Navy-Marine Corps Team,” said Secretary of the Navy Richard V. Spencer. “This partnership will increase opportunities for University of Hawaii students to achieve an education while pursuing a rewarding naval career, so that they can write the next chapter in the legacy of great naval leadership from the Aloha State.”

Naval Service Training Command, which oversees the NROTC program, will establish the unit, including staff and agreements with the university for facilities and other requirements. Students are anticipated to be able to apply through the NROTC website in summer or fall of 2020. Additional details will be released when they are available.

The NROTC program develops young men and women morally, mentally and physically and instills in them the highest ideals of honor, courage and commitment. The program educates and trains young men and women for leadership positions in an increasingly technical Navy and Marine Corps.
